Dana Classes

Yoga and Meditation Courtesies

Please wear clothing that you can move in.  Comfortable exercise clothing in layers is ideal.  Street clothes may be binding for movement and breathing exercises.  We do not wear shoes in to the studio; please remove them before entering.  Socks are a good idea.

Be considerate of others!  If you arrive late, enter quietly and if the teacher is in the midst of teaching, wait until the room is moving again to set up your props.  Please plan on attending the entire session.  Leaving early is disruptive to both teachers and students.

If you have a favorite meditation cushion, mat or personal blanket, bring it.  We have mats, bolsters, blankets and chairs available to make your experience comfortable.

Avoid a heavy meal before practice.  A light meal an hour or so beforehand is fine.  Please, no food or beverages in the studio.

Avoid heavy perfume or cologne as some may be sensitive.

Please silence your cell phone.

What is Dana or Love Offering?  According to some Yoga Buddhist traditions, dharma teachings should be given free of charge, thus making them available to anyone who wishes regardless of thier ability to pay. The donations people give should be a gift freely and joyfully given as an expression of your appreciation and support both to put these sacred and valuable teachings into practice. A portion of your offering goes to support those in need in our community.  Many have asked for a specific guideline regarding a dollar amount.  It may be helpful to know that the cost of a class at Moving Mantra ranges from $11 to $18, and that many programs of this sort offer a 'minimum suggested donation of $5'. Please give what feels right for you.  Your generosity makes it possible to continue to offer these programs and support our teachers.

Come and Meditate!!

Be With Your True Nature

Second Friday Every Month from 6-8pm

Our aim in meditation is to experience the truth, especially the truth of our own nature.  While we emphasize meditation practice we also mix in movement and reflection as well as guided and silent meditation. We offer a chance to practice meditation in movement and at rest through sitting, standing, and lying down.

Won Buddhism is a new form of Buddhism for the modern world. Originating in Korea in 1916, its founder Sot’aesan envisioned a practice for all people. He emphasized equality between priest and laity, men and women, all economic groups, and all races. He believed that great enlightenment is possible without removing oneself from worldliness, and that in fact living in the world and applying the practice and clarity of the dharma would facilitate awakening as well as transform the world into a paradise.

Rev. WonGong So was ordained as Kyomunim in 1994 after eight years of intensive training in Korea. She is a pioneering Won Buddhist priest who started a Temple with Western practitioners in Chapel Hill, NC. She also has a Masters of Social Work and has worked as a therapist.

No experience is necessary. Open to all. Donations gratefully accepted.Led by Rev. WonGong and Rev. IIDug (919-933-6946, wonbuddhismNC@gmail.com)

Yoga Nidra

Fourth Fridays each month.

Our minds require consistent training to help us free ourselves of the habits that cause tension in our lives, just as our bodies do.  Yoga Nidra literally means "sleep of the yogis".  It is a physical and mental relaxation technique which penetrates into much deeper levels of consciousness. Adherents claim that half an hour of Yoga Nidra can replace up to three hours of normal sleep!

Cyndi Bulka instructs. Donations appreciated.
