Course Description
**A note on combined-level classes** These classes as noted on our courses offered page are suitable for each level indicated. Classes are taught in a manner which instructs to the least experienced level and offers options to the more advanced level students.
Beginner Yoga
Basic yoga poses, breathing techniques and relaxation techniques. Great for new beginners or those who are looking to maintain a basic, regular practice.
Active Yoga
Basic yoga poses and breathing techniques, with a more active approach.
In this class we will build strength, stamina and flexibility using a
flowing series of postures synchronized with breath. Each class will
provide both flow and stretching leaving the practitioner feeling
balanced and refreshed.
Yoga Explorations
Our bodies are constantly sending us messages about what we need for balance and well being, but we are often too busy to listen. This class will allow us to become quiet and turn our awareness inward. We will then begin to explore the basic asanas and connect to the breath. You will leave feeling relaxed, balanced and rejuvenated! All levels are welcome. Perfect for the new Beginner as well.
Level I
For graduated beginners. New postures and techniques will build on the groundwork established during the Beginners series.
Level II
An intermediate level class. Further strength, stamina, and flexibility will be generated as more advanced postures are introduced. Deeper experiences of pranayama (breathing) and meditation will be explored.
Level III
Introduction to more advanced asana, pranayama and meditation techniques with an added focus on deepening your yoga practice and commitment. Students should be familiar with Sun Salutation and be relatively free of acute injury.
Gentle Yoga
Enjoy a slower-paced, relaxed class that unfolds gently, allowing practitioners, new and experienced, to develop their practice from a more organic, internal place. A full range of Yoga postures are explored including partner work, stregnth building and deeper stretches, but all done in a gentle, slow and mindful manner. Excellent if you are recovering from injury or illness, pregnant or post partum, or simply wanting a deep and gentle Yoga experience.
Vinyasa/Flow
Flow, or Vinyasa is a vigorous, yet graceful form of Hatha Yoga where poses flow continuously and are linked by the breath. Experience required.
Meditative Yoga
This gentle class emphasizes the meditative and relaxing benefits of yoga with slower movement, longer holds on gentler poses, and extended centering, relaxation, and meditation periods. The class is ideal for those wanting a gentle, meditative experience to balance the hectic pace of thier everyday life, or for those who have a vigorous athletic regime and are looking to balance the body/mind. No experience necessary.
Tai Chi
The practice of Tai Chi improves balance, focus, and strength of mind and body. Often termed a moving meditation, Tai Chi cultivates inner peace by virtue of its emphasis of the gentle balancing of mind and body through the physical, mental and spiritual practices of classical Chinese thought and movement. Many people seek the practice of Tai Chi to address injury or debilitation that is not responding to other forms of movement. Most of the exercises are done standing, which eliminates the need for getting up and down off the floor. Suitable for all ages and levels of strength.
Yoga Nidra
Our minds require consistent training to help us free ourselves of the habits that cause tension in our lives, just as our bodies do. Yoga Nidra literally means "sleep of the yogis". It is a physical and mental relaxation technique which penetrates into much deeper levels of consciousness. Adherents claim that half an hour of Yoga Nidra can eplace up to three hours of normal sleep!
Meditation
Meditation has been shown to reduce anxiety, depression, pain and increase happiness. How? We learn how to change our relationship to our thoughts and emotions, as well as pay more attention to the wonderful and refreshing things in our lives. Come join us for four sessions on the foundations of meditation to learn how simple it is. The four parts can be described as: Breathing with the Body, Breathing with Feelings, Breathing with the Mind, and Breathing with Wisdom
